De geschiedenis in het kort

• Moorse overheersing: de naam van het dorp komt van het Arabische 'Naziha', wat vruchtbaar land betekent. In deze periode lag de focus op de landbouw en de aanleg van irrigatiesystemen;

• 13e tot 18e eeuw: het gebied viel na de herovering onder de baronie van Polop. De bewoners richtten zich op de verbouw van amandelen en olijven;

• 18e eeuw: na een langdurig proces splitste La Nucía zich in 1705 officieel af van Polop. Het dorp kreeg in deze periode een eigen bestuur en een onafhankelijke status;

• Moderne tijd: de gemeente ontwikkelde zich vanaf de tweede helft van de 20e eeuw tot een internationaal centrum. De bouw van moderne sportfaciliteiten en woonwijken zorgde voor een sterke groei van het aantal inwoners.

De naam 'La Nucia'

De oorsprong van de naam ligt in de Arabische taal. Het woord 'Naziha' verwijst naar de gunstige ligging en de vruchtbaarheid van de vallei waarin het dorp ligt.

Tijdens de onafhankelijkheid van Polop in 1705 behield de plaats deze naam. De huidige schrijfwijze is de Spaanse en Valenciaanse vorm van de oorspronkelijke benaming. De naam symboliseert de overgang van een agrarische nederzetting naar een zelfstandige gemeente in de regio Marina Baixa.

De ligging van La Nucía

La Nucía bevindt zich in een breed dal in het binnenland van de Marina Baixa, op korte afstand van de Middellandse Zee. Het dorp ligt centraal tussen de kustplaatsen Altea en Benidorm en de bergachtige omgeving van Polop en Callosa d’en Sarrià.

De omgeving wordt gekenmerkt door de nabijheid van de berg Ponoig en de uitlopers van de Sierra de Aitana. Door de hogere ligging biedt de plaats uitzicht over de kustlijn en de omliggende valleien met amandel- en fruitbomen.

Door de ligging aan de hoofdweg CV-70 en de nabijheid van de snelweg AP-7 is het dorp goed bereikbaar. Vanaf de luchthaven van Alicante bedraagt de reistijd met de auto ongeveer 45 tot 50 minuten.

Binnen de regio is de plaats verbonden via een netwerk van buslijnen. Deze bussen bieden directe verbindingen met omliggende steden zoals Benidorm, Altea en Callosa d'en Sarrià.

Voor treinreizen kun je gebruikmaken van de TRAM-haltes in de nabijgelegen kustplaatsen voor een verbinding tussen Alicante en Dénia.

La Nucía has a Mediterranean climate with more than 300 sunny days a year. The average annual temperature is about 19 degrees Celsius, with summer temperatures rising above 30 degrees Celsius.

De natuur rondom La Nucía

Het belangrijkste natuurpunt in het dorp zelf is de Font de la Favara. Dit park ligt aan de voet van de berg Ponoig en beschikt over een natuurlijke waterval. Grote platanen en kurkeiken zorgen hier voor veel schaduw.

Would you like to go on vacation to La Nucía? The closest airport is Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández (ALC). From this airport it is about 50 kilometers to the village. The drive takes an average of 45 to 50 minutes via the AP-7 highway.

From several airports in the Netherlands and Belgium, airlines such as Transavia, KLM, Vueling, Ryanair and TUI fly directly to Alicante. You can take a rental car from the airport, book a cab or use a shuttle bus to nearby coastal towns.
