Connection between city and sea
The main goal of the renewal is to remove the visual and physical barriers that separated the city of Torrevieja from the coastline for many years. Where there used to be fences and unused port buildings, an open promenade is now being created.
The design creates a seamless transition from the Paseo de la Libertad to the waterfront. This allows residents and tourists to walk directly from the city center to the waterfront along wide, modern designed avenues with plenty of greenery and shaded areas.
Commercial and recreational functions
At the heart of the project will be a new two-story complex. This area will become the new economic engine for local hospitality and commerce.
There will be space for quality restaurants, boutiques and leisure facilities, including a modern cinema and bowling center. The design aims to attract visitors to the port area not just in the summer, but year-round, which is essential to the local economy.
Modern infrastructure and parking
To cope with the expected influx of visitors, significant investments have been made in underground infrastructure. An essential component is the construction of a large underground parking garage with more than 600 spaces.
By eliminating parking underground, the above-ground area remains completely pedestrianized. This contributes to the tranquility and appearance of the promenade. In addition, the existing fish market(Lonja) will be modernized and better integrated into the whole so that traditional port activities go hand in hand with modern tourism.

Future vision and current status
Although a project of this magnitude always faces challenges, the end is in sight. After several delays, the final opening date for the leisure center is Paseo del Mar has been set for late April or early May 2026.
While the finishing touches are being put on the surrounding infrastructure and access roads, many business owners are already busy furnishing their premises. The underground parking garage is now fully operational, which is already noticeably easing the pressure on the city center.
